Port St. Jean Cap Ferrat

Port de Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat Marina

The little village of Saint-Jean is nested around a cove on the eastern side of the peninsula where a small marina (560 berths) built in the 1970's, shelters some of the most luxurious yachts in the Mediterranean. This elegant seaside resort is very well protected and quiet and renowned for its wonderful pedestrian paths around the peninsula.  Two of the major pursuits in Cap-Ferrat, are strolling along the peninsulas on the beautiful rocky paths admiring the views and the villas, and having a relaxing meal in one of the many restaurants lining the port -- or just above the port -- in the town.  If you like mingling with the rich and famous, Cap-Ferrat is one of the best places in the world to do so

Restaurants
There are a number of restaurants to choose from lining the port or just above in the town:

Places of interest in and around the Port

Chapelle St. Hospice

Another path from the center of the village circles the promontory of Saint-Hospice.  A short walk uphill from the port of St Jean brings you to the Chapelle St Hospice.  From the top the hill, a monumental (38 ft high) bronze Madonna near a rustic 17th Century oratory overlooks the Bay of Beaulieu.  (The coastal path runs from Avenue Jean Mermoz past Plage de la Paloma to Point Hospice.)

The hermit Saint Hospitius lived in the 6th century at Cap-Saint-Hospice, between Villefranche and Beaulieu. According to Catholic history he girded himself with an iron chain, lived only on bread and dates, and was blessed with the gifts of prophecy and miracles. A painting within the chapel shows St. Hospice fallen to his knees and about to be beheaded by a sword-wielding figure standing behind. A chilling reference to the savagery still among us fifteen hundred years later.  In the chapel, visitors and locals enter requests and aspirations in a book.

Plage de la Paloma is a public beach just 5 minutes from the port

The Promenade Maurice Rouvier to Beaulieu

The Promenade Maurice Rouvier leads from Saint-Jean Cap-Ferrat to Beaulieu-sur-Mer (4km/2 mi) along the coastline, with many benches in the shade of the pine trees.  It takes about 45 minutes to get to Beaulieu. A walk along this path  is the only way to experience fully the charms of this magnificent peninsula. It has some excellent holiday residences and attractive landscaped gardens.
