Hamburg, Germany

Hamburg has many shopping districts, including an antiques section in the Markthalle near the Hauptbahnhof (main train station), and many upscale stores in the new Gaensemarkt area. The granddaddy of all the shopping streets in Hamburg is the Moenckebergstrasse with more than 100 shops. The biggest shopping malls - in square feet - are located in Hamburg's city centre.   Jungfernstieg and Neuer Wall are the most expensive with emphasis on national and international brand names in fashion, jewelry and upscale furnishings.

The Mönkebergstraße is the main shopping street with most of the big shopping chains (Esprit, H&M, Saturn, Karstadt, Kaufhof, S. Oliver - just to name a few).  It is definitely one of Germany's best shopping streets. It runs from the central train station (Hauptbahnhof) to the City Hall and is largely pedestrian zed.

Hamburg was one of the first cities to introduce shopping galleries - small elegant shopping malls in the middle of the city. And when you walk along Jungfernstieg to Gänsemarkt and Neuer Wall you will find dozens of these galleries! These are the real designer shops and very expensive, but window shopping does not cost you much - plus they do have nice cafés and bars there as well!

The Hamburger Hof (hotel) shopping niche is also on the Jungfernstieg. Cosmetics, contemporary clothing and shoes can be found in this shopping centre.
Europa Passage is a new shopping mall in the center of Hamburg which seems to be enormously popular. It's only a few hundred feet from the Rathaus, and overlooking the Binnenalster. It boasts over 100 shops on five floors, including names such as Esprit, H&M, Hilfiger Denim, Kult and Sasch, not to mention the largest sports shop in Europe.

Rathaus Passage/ Markt

Here you can find souvenirs, typical street food and other reminders of your time in Hamburg. Plus, admire Hamburg’s beautiful Rathaus at the same time.

Stilwerk

Seven floors and almost thirty stores provide a glimpse of Hamburg's more up-scale interior design and furniture stores. This one-stop shopping also comes with a front seat view of the Elbe.

Levante-Haus

A fine example of Hanseatic Kontorhaus (trading house) architecture, Levante-Haus was built just before WWI by a local shipping magnate. Now completely renovated Levante-Haus has been transformed into a high class shopping centre complete with offices, restaurants and the superb Hyatt hotel.

Hanse-Viertel

A quarter of a century old and looking good for its age, this luxurious indoor shopping arcade is packed with shops selling everything from clothes to porcelain to perfume. There’s a good Mövenpick café in the basement too.

Gänsemarkt Passage

You are sure to leave with something new after entering this passage. For fun and stylish shoes and accessories, as well as delicious ice cream and bagels.

Galeria Kaufhof

Germany’s ubiquitous behemoth department store is the best place in town for ladies’ cosmetics, clothes, electrical goods, chocolates and everything else under the sun.

The downtown Karstadt store complex (on Moenkebergstrasse) always was and definitely still is the best place to shop in all of Hamburg. To go one step further, it is one of the top shopping addresses in all of Europe! Here you'll find almost everything you can imagine throughout the year at very reasonable prices. It is one of the reasons why I love to return to beautiful Hamburg. Try it yourself, you won't be disappointed!

Saturn

Allegedly the largest electrical goods store in the world this big grey lump is packed with floor upon floor of all those gadgets you forgot to pack and more besides.

Bären Treff

For some reason many people tend to associate Germany with gummy bears. Perhaps this store is the reason. Take home a giant gummy bear or an assortment of gummy candies from this store.
